LOCATION: Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia
Much has been written about the iconic ‘apostles’ along the Great Ocean Road – how they were formed & how they evolve.
Usually the starting point has been the sea finding fissures in the limestone, gradually excavating them until they become tunnels in the cliff face, then arches, then stacks.
The constant is change, with the limestone ultimately no match for the relentless power of the sea.
This image depicts the cycle at an early stage where the sea has breached the defences of the cliff face & has excavated a tunnel.
Go forward a hundred years & that tunnel may well have become a new arch which a new generation will possibly come to admire & to photograph.
