LOCATION: Island Archway, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia
The south coast of Victoria is constantly evolving & re-configuring – large limestone stacks are both formed & destroyed.
In earlier times, this particular formation was known as the Island Archway & rose some 25 metres above sea level. In 2009 it finally succumbed to the relentless elements of wind & sea & collapsed into The Southern Ocean.
Left in place were these two new ‘apostles’ which for some obscure reason have been renamed ‘Tom & Eva’. They now guard the entrance to this small inlet.
I arrived at the location pre-dawn & watched as these twin stacks gradually emerged from the gloom. I was impressed by their stature & presence & have tried to capture that feeling in this image.
